CyberCruise Report Dateline: Bel Marin Keys, Sept 5-8 1998 Too bad we missed Paul's RC boat request message. We would have enjoyed a the opportunity to hang out at Berkeley Yacht Club. BMK was great! Lots of great hospitality, toys, and good friends. Thanks to Chris and Alan for hopping aboard on Saturday to play with our little men and help out at the lock. After leaving BMK we hoisted jib and mizzen at the bridge and enjoyed perfect weather all the way to Treasure Island. While the boys slept Darwin and I danced in the cockpit! It was hot - but we got smart and kept the awning up and avoided heat stroke. The Blues Festival at TI seemed to be nothing more than a front for a Gray Davis visit on Monday. Monday morning we toured the island by cable car bus and noted the gorgeous views. I hope it retains its rustic charm. We set sail for RWC at 1:00 pm and entered our end-tie at 5:30 ish. The tides are perfect on October 9th for an Angel Island Weekend. Hope to see you there! Mer de la Mer
CyberCruise Report Dateline: Bel Marin Keys, Sep 6-7 1997 I shoulda... ...charged the batteries. Well, I finally got into Redwood City at 6:15AM. In fact, I sailed right into my slip. Why? Because I ran the batteries down so far I couldn't start the damn engine. It took me almost 4.5 hours to get from the S&M Bridge to Pete's. Beautiful night, though. Dudley
Big thanks to Rui and Ruth for allowing me to tag along with them aboard "Williwaw" -- and for going out of their way to pick me up at South Beach. It was a fun trip! Sailing up the channel with three other boats was way cool, and "locking through" into BMK was a first for me. So how was the birthday party for Elise? Did the hot tub eventually fill with nekkid CyberCruisers? Did Paul's 'rents get home and ground him for nearly ripping the cleats out of dad's dock? -Craig Haggart, Ericson 27 "Roxanne"
The hot tub was great. I was able to (sneak a) soak while others were inside watching train videos. Cyber cruisers are a fun bunch. We (Consort) had a great sail back into the Bay. I feel very fortunate, having only crossed San Pablo Bay 3x, each time has been fairly smooth with Sunday's sail the best yet. We had a straight shoot out from under the SR/R Bridge to a mooring in Ayala Cove on Angel Is. And a spectacular sunset to wow and woo all of us. Dudley, you are studley, with batteries or not. As we were approaching home port yesterday, Andy commented on washing his new sails before putting them away for Winter. (Picture Andy in a pool with a scrub brush, lovingly scrubbing his new sails. Next he will want to iron them). He quickly changed his mind when i frowned in fear that this was our last big sail of the season. I reminded him of the Criuse to Candlestick Cove, and hopefully a heat spell in October. Any other encouragement would be most helpful here. Besides wicked weather sailing is good practice right? I mean come-on. Try spending a winter sailing on Humbodlt Bay, and crossing the jaws to the NorthCoast. At the very least we could gather at some place for a potluck of good conversation. If we can't be sailing at least we can be spinning yarns while El Nino does its thing. So obvisoulsy, I am resisiting getting back into my Civic duties here. Sailing on my mind. Maybe BART talks should resume on board Consort. Thanks to everyone who made BMK such a great time. Especially to the BMK host(s). Marianne
